Overview
VISIONS is an installation inspired by my piece, Hey You! (2013), now in the private collection of David Horwitz' Girls Club. The installation is made with handmade sculptural forms hanging from the ceiling, resembling 'dried flowers'. I used matchsticks to scorch the fabric. I have been experimenting with the flame because I enjoy witnessing the alchemistic process of the melting and transformation of fabric. The viewer is invited to enjoy the dreamy, evocative sculptural forms that move and whisper.
Goals
The installation was part of a textile art show at FAT Village, The Projects (Fort Lauderdale) curated by Leah Brown and Peter Symons. The piece is made out of synthetic fabric, scorched with matchsticks. This piece speaks about our relationship to natural surroundings, but it is also related to daydreaming experiences.
Process
The installation process was facilitated by the curators. They provided a scaffold, ladder, and some help.
