Overview
These framed pieces were created using the encaustic medium on panel. The technique involves dripping and spreading hot wax on the panel then fusing the layers of wax together with a hot iron. Multiple layers of color create a rich texture that evokes elements found in nature.
Goals
This university is located just blocks from the ocean. The vision for the project was to create an environment that reflected the natural landscape of Maine and evoked the feeling of the nearby ocean and woodland forests.
Process
The first step of the process was to view the space and determine what pieces might work best based on color, dimension and content. I chose these particular encaustic pieces because of their deep color and texture, as both represented the beauty and ruggedness of the Maine coast.
Additional Information
Because there were varying wall colors in the University's Presidential Suite, I selected pieces that I felt coordinated best with the interior flooring and wall colors.
