Overview
In “Touch of Spirit”, translucent stone and light are combined to tell the story of healing intention and its affects on physical matter. These seemingly impermeable gray stones are severely carved, allowing light to filter through its hardness. Light is allowed to fully break through at the bottom, piercing the shadow below. This wall sculpture diptych is 34″ tall and 14″ wide. 1″ thick Gray Marble and LED back-lighting.
Goals
I combine stone with light to reveal what normally is not seen beneath the surface. I use this as a metaphor to express what I see as the energy that exists within and emanates from all things - some would say at a sub-atomic level. To do this, I carve areas of marble impossibly thin allowing light to pass through the stone, illuminating its crystalline and mineral structures.
