Overview
Project Backboard collaborated with artist Carlos Rolón to fully renovated a public outdoor basketball court in the artist’s home country of Puerto Rico with a large scale mural.
Goals
Prior to adding artwork Project Backboard completely renovated the public outdoor basketball court. We the collaborated with Carlos to install a unique work of art on the surface with the goal of making the space inviting to families, young women and children. The improvements also included an outdoor fitness center.
Process
Working closely with the artist and local government officials and local contractor we received all necessary permitting to work in the space and engaged community volunteers in the repair and paint process.
Additional Information
Project Backboard has renovated public basketball courts in multiple cities, always incorporating a local artist, but this is our first project in Puerto Rico.
