Goals

The Reader for Portland Community College’s new Southeast Campus and Library is a monumental female figure sitting cross legged on the lawn, reading a large book. The sculpture comprises of evenly spaced polished stainless-steel slabs with gaps in between.
The figure appears to consist of solid steel when approached from the side but virtually disappears when viewed face-on, making the sculpture highly engaging to diverse audiences.
