Over 400 original artworks by artists from over 80 countries were installed in the guestrooms and bathrooms, in addition to many specially commissioned works for the public spaces, including the 9 foot “Daxton Bunny.” For the restaurant pieces, we wanted to work with an artist whose works reflected the theme of the restaurant and its celebration of motherhood – the restaurant is called Madam. I immediately proposed artist Karin Vermeer’s portraits of women and that’s how we came to commission her work. The works were a perfect fit for the space and will create a show stopping moment as guests enter the restaurant. Similarly for the other custom pieces, I commissioned artists whose works offered a fresh take on the genres of pop and street art, one of the unifying themes throughout the property.
The goal was to curate a collection of Pop and Street Art from all over the world, giving guests the opportunity to discover outstanding emerging artists and to experience unique artworks whichever guestroom they stay in.
