Overview
Rising from a unique sunken traffic roundabout that also serves as a pedestrian underpass near the University of Texas, El Paso, The Cloud is constructed of thousands of hinged flags that move in the breeze. it is 70' x 50' x 50', made of steel and enameled stainless steel.
Goals
The University of Texas, El Paso, and a long history of friendship with the Kingdom of Bhutan, and has adopted its architectural style. My inspiration came from Buddhist prayer flags on the campus.
Process
I worked with a great team that included engineer Kyle Schurter of K L & A, imaging genius Michael Mowry, and fabricators JunoWorks, all under the direction of my venerable project manager, John Grant of Public Art Services.
