Alliance of Crop, Soil and Environmental Science Societies
Overview
Although the project was a commission for the Alliance of Crop, Soil and Environmental Science Societies (ACSESS), the piece needed to incorporate subjects of interest to each Society in the group: American Society of Agronomy; Crop Science Society of America; Soil Science Society of America. To accomplish this, the design comprised five separate watercolor paintings to include each of the three disciplines. It is 10’ high x 7’ wide, hand painted on watercolor paper mounted on stretched, cotton canvas and varnished to protect from UV, dirt and moisture. Its frame is mounted directly to the wall.
Goals
The project was a commission for the Alliance of Crop, Soil and Environmental Science Societies (ACSESS), but the piece needed to incorporate subjects of interest to each Society in the group: American Society of Agronomy; Crop Science Society of America; Soil Science Society of America. To accomplish this, the design comprised five separate watercolor paintings addressing each of the three disciplines.
Process
I was in constant communication with the CEO of ACSSESS, relaying sketches, painted mock ups of each piece, and ideas for display. The stretchers and frame were built by Coyote Creek Creations, determining how the frame could be built to surround the five pieces without actually connecting to them.
