Artwork was needed for an 18 foot tall wall in the great room of a home in PA. In order to fit the scale of the wall and room, the artwork needed to be approximately 10 feet long and 5 feet wide. The home owners decided on a contemporary abstract textile piece for the space.

Several design concepts were important. The home is on a wooded spacious lot, and because of the tall windows on the north and west sides of the room, the changing seasons become part of the room all year round. The artwork would need to look good in any season, including the bright colors of autumn. The artwork needed to look good with the wood design and color of the windows and the massive rock fireplace. The dominant color of the furniture is a blue gray.

I brought fabric samples to the home to determine the best match of color with the furniture and rock fireplace, as well as the accent colors that I had in mind to use. These were approved by the home owners. I was given freedom to create a piece in two or three long sections that would be displayed together.

Additional Information

The project is about 5 feet wide and 10.5 feet long. The arrangement of the parts can be changed side to side and/or in relative height to one another. Each section is hung independent of the others, with it's own stick in a sleeve, and is hung using fishing line up and over a small nail much higher than the top or the artwork. The quilt sections can be washed.
