Overview
The American sycamore is the grand tree of floodplains throughout the Southeast, including the Little Sugar Creek. Exfoliated bark and leaves from sycamore trees can been seen floating down creeks. The inspiration for Sycamore came from this natural process. Three concrete textured seats in puzzle pieces stylized from sycamore bark offer a seating area along the XCLT Trail in Charlotte, NC. Project in collaboration with Shaun Cassidy and sponsored by the Arts & Science Council and the City of Charlotte.
Goals
The sculptural seats were positioned between the new greenway and stream. The textures of the seats were inspired by patterns of water. The cross section of the seats recall the eroded streambanks of Mecklenburg County.
