Overview

To celebrate their new law office space, the Client asked for a large, uplifting, engaging, original artwork relatable to their clients. Built with layers of various kinds of wood, using screws, nails, and industrial glue, the sculpture is then primed and sealed with industrial primer. Bringing the textures to life with professional, artist’s oil paints and then sealed with a UV protective coating, “Stories of Buildings” measures H 48 in x W 48 in x D 7 in

Goals

Considering the space, the new office is within a historical train station built in 1873. Many of the architectural features are preserved: the original windows, and the wall treatments. The high ceilings and the industrial essence of the space required a large, urban, architectural artwork. The unique dimensionality of the artwork creates engagement with the visitors to the office, yet seamlessly fits into the environment.

Process

After a site visit to understand the space and the surrounding architectural buildings, the Client communicated their ideal size of the artwork and the intention of the piece. We discussed the appropriate size and the buildings that would be incorporated into the composition. I proposed a drawing outlining the details. Upon approval, the creation of the artwork began and timely updates of the process were communicated with photos via email.

Once completed, a custom crate was created and the artwork was delivered. I assisted with the installation. The artwork was installed easily and a Certificate of Authenticity was included.
