Overview
New stained glass lightboxes & hanging lightbox cross (29 sqft) for Baptistry area at a Baptist Church.
Goals
The goal was to bring back stained glass art into a modern no-windows architecture building during the building's rennovation. The new stained glass lightboxes and hanging lighted cross reintroduced sacred light into the back wall of the Baptistry.
Process
I was contacted by a member of the church's building committee, asked to present a proposal, and work with the interior design scheme already approved. Hard materials, lighting, and soft materials had already been selected. I proposed cutting into the false wall in the Baptistry area, installing LED rope lights and stained glass into the space, and constructing a custom free-handing illuminated stained glass and wood cross.
Additional Information
After the completion of the project, small personal crosses were made using stained glass left over from the construction. These were given as "thank you" gifts to donors and special friends of the project.
