Overview
Two grazing squirrels with upright tails face each other from opposite ends of the lawn while a friendly open-mouthed lizard inhabits the bosque at Fayette Park in Mountian View, California, opened in 2023.
Goals
Designed for human interaction, the whimsical forms within these abstract naturalistic sculptures are intended to amuse people of all ages while referencing native species and giving the park an additional animal presence.
Process
These sculptures were fabricated entirely from regionally sourced scrap steel propane tanks that were carefully dissected and reassembled with no additional reshaping of the material. This process has a minimal carbon footprint and produces durable objects which contain 99% post-consumer reused content. Upon closer examination the viewer may notice textured surfaces from decades of corrosion and the original manufacturing weld seams and fitting ports, all of which highlight the material’s transformation from utilitarian containers into functional works of art.
