Overview
This permanent installation was commissioned by the Facebook AIR Program for a new office space in Austin, TX. The floor houses several adjacent conference rooms surrounded by an l-shaped lounge area. We created a unique sparkling art installation made from densely layered chains of pop-tops, mounted on custom CNC backings fitted with hardware. This installation is installed on 82 continuous feet of wall including an adjacent glass-walled stairwell.
Goals
From the onset the client asked that the art "really live in the space", so the 82 continuous feet of art installation covered all the available walls playfully incorporating doorways thermostats, duct-work and a stairwell into the overall design.
Process
After being contacted by the Facebook AIR Program I hired a crew of 6 people to help create the long chains of can-tabs that comprise this artwork. We used 100,000 tabs in a wide range of colors to make this installation. The same crew worked with me to install the work on the walls.
