Overview
A kinetic, solar powered light installation at Pontio Arts and Innovation Centre, Bangor, North Wales
In moments of sunlight, miniature solar powered mechanisms become activated – rotating a series of suspended dichroic panels to create dynamic projections and reflections of light, colour and movement across the space.
Spanning 40m across the south facing window facade, the work changes throughout the day, responding to the position of the sun in the sky.
Goals
The work transforms the space into a sensory walkway for visitors, students and staff - projecting colourful shapes and dynamic patterns onto the surrounding walls and floor during sunshine.
Process
The project was realised in collaboration with electronics engineers at Bangor University, taking advantage of the large windows to harness energy from the sun.
