Overview
2019 © Susan Gott. A 51 foot Glass Art and Terrazzo bench incorporating abstracted imagery of the beach and ocean. The nautical theme includes a mosaic of yachting iconography and marine life. The glass sea-shells, fish, crabs, spiral shells and anemones float about in the blue water and wash up on the sandy shore. The terrazzo uses a Mother-of-Pearl matrix to add to the playful nautical theme.
Goals
The goal of this public art project was to use local environmental themes of Tampa's beaches to create a Terrazzo bench with those themes embedded as glass focal points.
Process
The glass sea-shells, fish, crabs, and other marine life were individually crafted from hot glass. They were then embedded into the Terrazzo concrete during the concrete casting process.
