Overview
This piece is 18 ft long, made up of 3 consecutive wood panels, each 6′ long x 4′ high. It was made to fit into an alcove in one of the main thoroughfares between the conference room and executive lounge.
Goals
The designers wanted artwork displayed throughout the entire hotel. All the work has edgy, urban, fashion oriented elements to reference the surrounding NYC fashion district and art center. Many artists and craftspeople executed works that ranged from one of a kind artwork, to custom metal handrails and bathroom mirrors.
Process
The designer specified that the main element should be made from metal collar stays, for men's shirts, and they also dictated the colors to be used. The design was left for me to decide. We went back and forth for several months until everyone agreed on this final design.
