Overview
A commission awarded by the City of Lynchburg to add artwork to a newly constructed set of steps in part of the city's Bluffwalk Project. Four landings of steps were adorned with water-jet cut cor-ten steel which are backlit with LED lighting. The artwork covered 125 linear feet of concrete.
Goals
Inspired by archeological digs, the steel was cut to resemble the city's skyline throughout its history- as seen from across the river with reflection. The top level depicts buildings from 1850, then 1900, 1950, and 2000 on the bottom level with it's current architecture.
Process
I acted as artist, designer and installer on the project. Mark Burnley with Waterjet Cutting Services cut the metal. Nancy Marion assisted in the final design layout. John Carrington assisted with the installation.
