Overview
Rock Cottage Glassworks was commissioned to create an invigorated blown glass installation for Leawood, Kansas Aquatic Center. The themes of water match the aesthetics inherent to blown glass that define a sense of place for visitors. We designed a free standing shadow box and a facade of transom windows under their chosen color palette direction. These works help give life and energy for the community center as all guests are greeted with these public artworks upon arrival inside and out.
Goals
"Ripple and clear water where no stone is cast" that makes me think reflectively and thoughtfully. Our goals were to define a sense of place at the Leawood Aquatic Center through two public artworks. The designs are seamless to the compound and give a strong aesthetic style to the public pool.
Process
Our process is unique in the glass industry. We hand blow each of these pieces and components, some of which are then fused flat into singular panels. The transom windows use this effect. The free standing shadow box is double sided with interior LED lighting and ventilation for temperature control.
