Overview

Large water vortex forms inside a 70-foot diameter acrylic bowl that functions as a dynamic skylight for a retail concourse at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Goals

The intent from the start was to blur the boundaries between art, architecture and nature. The artwork functions as a skylight and a rain collector.

Process

I collaborated with the architect, Moshe Safdie, from an early stage in the design to create a dynamic skylight for the retail hub. After the initial design work the project involved extensive collaboration with engineers, fountain consultants and the fabricator.
