Overview
The artwork is a mild & stainless steel tree, 18 feet tall with glass inlaid leaves. The tree is constructed with three levels of “branches” that rotate independently via wind power. The sculpture is surrounded by a steel ring which has been laser cut and lit from within to promote an area known as The Parkway.
Goals
The sculpture was paid in part by a City of Richland grant in support of local businesses and in part by the Farmers Market foundation. The artwork had to incorporate something iconic that would draw visitors to the business center but contain a natural element as a nod to the local farmers.
Process
CJ Rench of CJR Designstudio (Hood River, OR) was the artist, designer and fabricator. He worked diligently with the founders of the Richland Farmers Market to create an awesome yet peaceful sculpture to be the center jewel of the weekly farmers market.
Additional Information
This was entirely a group effort between the Richland Farmers Market foundation (RPBI), the City of Richland (funds and labor) and the artist, CJ Rench. CJ is a Richland native so giving a piece of himself back to his community meant a lot to him. "Tree of Seasons" has become a city icon and destination point for residents and visitors alike.
