The Flamingo Sports Bar
Overview
A mural on the exterior south facing wall of a historic bar/pool hall. Mural scale was 250 total square feet.
Goals
Important to please the literary crowd that host semi-annual Keroauc events at this bar, plus the owner's ideas, and the pool playing critics. To incorporate all limited wall space to grab attention from passing cars, working around a markee sign and the tight roof line.
Process
Always starting with a drawing and a narrative. The sketches were redone about 15 or more times until the owner and myself the artist were happy with the image, overall theme and plausibility of the design being painted directly onto the wall mural style. After much back and forth collaboration plus research on my part, the design evolved from a map with icons plotting a journey, to a figurative collage style final image.
Additional Information
Physical demands of working solo on exterior mural in Florida weather should be considered. Also the painting was done 95 percent with brush and roller, 5 percent with spray paint. Total effort from prep to finish exceeded 500 hours.
