Overview

Step through the heavy wooden doors on the lower level of Vancouver’s iconic Hotel Georgia and discover a throwback to the best of elegant Jazz Era speakeasies.

Dormant for nearly a decade, this new venue evolved as part of the historic hotel’s 2011 redesign and opened its doors in 2015 to welcome visitors to a time gone by.

Goals

Eos Lightmedia was asked to create an intimate, period-appropriate, sophisticated ambiance that uses contemporary, energy-efficient technologies to evoke the sultry best of Roaring Twenties. Eos accomplished this with natural warm lighting from decorative lamps, complemented by lensed luminaires, which add soft illumination and provide a subtle contrast for the darker finishes. Lighting under the seating and bar rail creates a soft glow on the floor, while high-colour-rendering LED luminaires bring out the colour and sheen of textured fabrics and finishes.

Process

As visitors sip their cocktails and listen to Louis Armstrong, they experience the subtle role that lighting plays in taking them back to an era of unprecedented glamour and prosperity. And that’s exactly the point.
