Overview
Orbital by Futureforms, at the Bridgeview entrance of Uber’s POPOS Pierpoint Lane, is a contemporary garden folly, exploring geometric and material exuberance. 33 feet tall, It evokes organic forms found in nature, but also giant robots and futuristic space vehicles. The exterior surface is defined by stainless steel origami skins, while the interior space is wrapped by a vortex of colorful tactile shingles. Orbital’s dynamic form inspires curiosity and playful interaction.
Goals
Uber’s new headquarters public art program sought to commission artworks that generate a sense of energy and movement. These artworks will attract visitors and locals to the site and enhance their experience, while contributing to the overall vitality and urban fabric of the Mission Bay neighborhood. KOA developed the Art Master Plan and curated the art program that includes interior and exterior commissioned and purchased artworks for Uber’s new campus comprising four buildings and a 4.5 acre park.
