Overview

I was commissioned to do several sculptures for this project by the project interior designer. This property is located in Breckenridge Colorado and the concept was contemporary mountain bringing in nature and the wonder of the mountain experience. This particular piece was located above the main entryway which had an interesting space that needed an organic piece to bring interest and warmth to the entry exit. Aspen trees are the hallmark in the Colorado mountains. I created a large-scale Aspen branch out of wood that would bring undulating form and openness to the space…to become a part of the design and magic of the mountains.

Goals

The goals of this project were to bring the beauty of nature in the form of a variety of artworks in different media. It was also to beautify the space and enhance the branding, architecture and interior design of the resort.

Process

I worked with the project designer and project manager creating several options and concepts for the space. Once we decided on the piece, I worked with a wood working friend of mine who had the shop to create the large-scale leaves. Once the leaves and the structure I designed were built, I took them to my studio to apply the finish. I then went back to the wood working studio where we put the piece together. We then labeled each piece deconstructed it and then brought it to the sight to install. The client and designer were thrilled with the final piece.
