Overview
A street art painting competition during the annual ArtsFest 2020 in Stuart, FL. Nine artists were chosen to fill a prefabricated 8’x8′ wall during an 8 hour time frame, rain or shine. The public voted via text messaging for their favorite wall, and the winner received a $1000 reward. Each artist was given a $100 stipend for materials.
Goals
To create a family friendly image of my choice, that could also be completed within the 8 hour allotted time frame.
Process
I had a couple of weeks to come up with a design before the competition took place. Knowing that the wall would be a square format, I chose a design that will fill the space and create a lively appeal, using vibrant and bold colors so it could easily be seen from a distance. I used a grid system to recreate my drawing on the large scale and painted with a mix of rollers and brushes.
Additional Information
My mural was used as the cover and aired on the local WPTV news story of ArtsFest 2020, and re-aired in 2021.
