Overview
My Americans is a project that entails photography, moving image, 3D printing and technology, it is my critical commentary about the current state of American society, highlighting issues like gun culture, war conviction, social media abuse and excessive use of plastic that contributes to pollution. As an immigrant, as a woman, as a mother and as an artist, I believe it is my responsibility to focus on issues that are relevant to society. I’m passionate about using my skills as image maker to create visual activism. It’s my wish for My Americans to become a path for reflection and dialogue.
Goals
This is not a commissioned project. It has been produced entirely on my own. The goal has been to create a project that shows my nuanced perspective as a Mexican immigrant.
Process
This project has been developed during the first year of my Master of Fine Arts at Rochester Institute of Technology. The guidance of my professors and the feedback of my classmates have contributed to make this project happen. My husband, Lauro Bolado, has helped me with the inclusion of technology, as he is an expert on software development.
