Overview
Limited Edition Bronze Monument Installed in Downtown Orlando FL. This was my first monumental sculpture that was initially commissioned by Benson Sculpture Park in Loveland Colorado when I was six years into my fine art sculpture career. Cast Bronze, 8′ x 3′ x 9′ tall. It is a limited edition of nine pieces, four of which are sold.
Goals
Benson Sculpture Park asked me to enlarge the original 14 inch tall bronze to a monumental scale for their sculpture park.
Process
This was my first monumental scale enlargement and I did it by eye , using a multiplier of the dimensions and matching angles of the original pedestal size bronze sculpture. The original maquette was sculpted in oil clay, molded and cast in bronze. For the monumental enlargement I built the bones out of steel, the muscles out of foam, and skinned it with clay. I then cut the finished enlargement into 17 pieces and molded each piece. After casting the pieces in bronze using the lost wax method, I welded the 17 panels back together, grinded, sanded and sandblasted, with a traditional ferric patina with cobalt veining in the pants.
Additional Information
I have learned the most about this sculpture, and all my sculptures, by exhibiting extensively across the country, where I had the opportunity to hear people talk to me about their experience and interpretations.
