Goals

Located in the new Medstar healthcare headquarters outside Baltimore, this commissioned artwork served two primary goals. The first goal was to transform the space where visitors, employees, and executives would enter the building on a daily basis. More than just an element of visual interest, though, the commission was also designed to meet the second more specific goal of reflecting and reinforcing Medstar’s mission: “To serve our patients, those who care for them, and our communities.” Because Medstar is located in the greater WDC and Baltimore area, the artwork incorporated a map design displaying the local communities they serve. To further illustrate Medstar’s proud legacy of high-level care as well as their commitment to healthcare innovation, the artwork incorporated hundreds of U.S. stamps honoring medical professionals and milestones throughout history.

Process

To bring this project to life, I consulted with Art Matters to learn more about the client’s values, interests, and goals for this specific commissioned artwork. Together we brainstormed several design and content elements that would meet the client’s goals in the most compelling way.
