Overview
“Shimmer at the Edge”, 9 x 6,5 feet. Oil glazes over marble dust and metal on wood. To be installed in the foyer where there are lots of windows.
Goals
The piece was supposed to be a focal point in an area at the Markey Cancer Center, University of Kentucky Hospital. A place where patients, family and staff could sit and relax, and reflect in, for many, a scary and depressing place. Although an abstract piece, it represents sea and sky to me, which I find to be soothing in nature.
Process
Having received the commission after a written proposal and showing works digitally to the main art division, I got together with doctors and staff at Markey Cancer Center showing them actual other works I had done. They got excited, told me what they liked, and after that I had free hands.
Additional Information
Through the years I have received so many wonderful comments about the piece, how much it meant for them to have it there, that I know it was a success and that we achieved that goal!
