Overview
Twenty playful letter forms embedded with colorful ceramic designs line the two sides of the South Street Underpass at the north end of downtown Louisville, Colorado. Appearing as a series of abstracted forms, the 2′ x 4′ steel panels are actually a series of letter forms spelling out “Louisville Colorado US.” The steel of the panels will gradually take on a rust patina, harmonizing with the massive steel beams of the railroad bridge immediately above the walkway.
Steel, ceramic, cement board, mortar, grout.
Goals
The goal of the project was to enliven the underpass with original art. The underpass connects downtown Louisville with shops and apartments on the other side of the railroad tracks.
