Overview
The renovation of the LeMeridien St. Louis Downtown, an architecturally significant and historic building dating to 1913, involved the design directive to create an art-focused lobby area that would inspire and engage guests in a meaningful way. We were asked to procure an interactive art piece, and chose the artist team of Cuppetelli and Mendoza to create a piece that would act as a dynamic exchange between the art and the guests in the lobby area. We were also asked to reference the St. Louis Eads Bridge in the collection. The artist Jeffry Loy created an abstracted cable and rod sculpture installed at the Lobby Reception Wall. The centerpiece of the lobby is a pedestal mounted, life-size abstract figurative metal sculpture by Tor Archer.
Goals
The directive for the artwork was to create a museum quality collection of sculpture and artwork to both engage and captivate viewers.
Process
Art Initiative worked closely with the interior design firm, Blackdog Studio to bring the collection to life.
