Overview
LEAPING FISH, NATURE’S CYCLES, 2004 East Los Angeles Civic Center, Belvedere Park Lake Two monumental travertine fish leaping out of Belvedere Lake water. Medium: travertine carvings, stainless steel, water features and lighting. Dimension of travertine carvings: 84″ x 32″ x 23″ and 70″ x 35″ x 22″ Water and lighting features: Jenna Didier, Fountainhead Water Feature Design and Engineering. Commissioned by: the County of Los Angeles.
Goals
The goals for integrating commissioned artwork into this project was to create sculptures that reflect the natural and community history of the lake and park, as well as to create an artwork that has a philosophic and poetic essence concerning nature and its cycles.
Process
I collaborated with engineers, architects and a water features specialist, as well as community leaders and neighbors of the site.
Additional Information
The intention for this project was to create a sculpture that would speak to the community regardless of demographic changes that might occur in the future.
