Dimensions: 131″ x 44″ x 4.5″
Description: The shapes in this sculpture are inspired by natural columnar basalt formations. The columnar shapes are inlaid with layers of luminous and changing gradients of color. The color animations are derived from digital images of flowers.
Goals
The client had seen my work through an art consultant and selected me as a candidate for this location. They provided a design guide covering their inspiration for the architectural design and decor aesthetics for the hotel. It was very important to the client that sculptural elements in their hotel comply to these design constraints.
Process
I submitted a set of initial sketches and descriptions of their inspirations and possible color palettes. The client responded indicating which design was their favorite. At this point I took renderings of the space and superimposed a more refined version of the selected design.
Additional Information
This was my first solo major public work an I couldn't be happier about how it turned out. The design process went smoothly, I worked well within the design constraints, and the project was completed on time and within budget.
