Overview
One of two large-scale public Smalti glass mosaics an original Artwork commissioned by and in the public art collection of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, Minneapolis, MN. These artworks were fabricated and completed during COVID. Based on the conceptual idea of travel, particularly in the tenuous time of COVID, the aim of the work was to saturate the traveler’s field of vision with color and texture, evoking sharing wishes for safe and happy travels. For this work I was thinking about how color is an incredibly personal experience that affects humans emotionally. The saturated colors here are intended to enrich the viewers’ experience and provide a place of joy and clam.
Goals
This work is a part of my I Love You Institute and was created to share hope, friendship, emotional exchange. The aim of the work was to saturate the traveler's field of vision with color and texture, evoking sharing wishes for safe and happy travels.
Process
I worked with The MSP Airport Commission on the design approval. Once the design was approved all communication was digital working with Stephen Miotto and Fabrizio Travisanutto on the specific color choices and smalti designs until install.
