Overview
A flock of birds flying through trees in an interior courtyard. The orange and violet color was inspired by the varied thrush, a local bird, and the palette of the room finishes. Commissioned by the Washington State Arts Commission.
Goals
The idea was to design a budget-sensitive suspended artwork that would be dynamic enough to engage the entire courtyard and not be obstructed by the large trees that would be incorporated as well.
Process
Several possible sites were examined with the committee before deciding on the courtyard.
Blown glass, acid etched, vitreous enamels, fired, laminated to clear laminated safety glass.
