Overview
Fisheel Trap references Aboriginal fishing practice and crafts.
Based on the significant amount of research from Morton Street Arts Plan commissioned by Frazers Developers. In October each year the aboriginal people would go to the river and fish for the eels using traps made from the Mandurah grass.
Researched many sources, oral and documented histories utilising the local heritage Centre and library. The Aboriginal Liaison Committee of Parramatta Council was consulted a number of times and also the subcommittee called the Gadigal Committee.
Research was an important and valuable component of the engagement process which not only involved librarians and prime sources but also reporting back to the committees.
