Overview
This colorful wall sculpture was commissioned for a corridor within the newly opened California Pacific Medical Center in the center of San Francisco, CA. The faceted, multi panel sculpture is made from airbrushed aluminum and measures 20′ wide x 4′ high x 3″ deep.
Goals
Occupying an entire city block along a major San Francisco arterial, the new 12-story Van Ness Hospital is a beautiful, state of the art addition to the city. Throughout the campus an artful use of a calming palette to reduce stress and anxiety of the hospital's staff, patients, and visitors was an important goal in specifying artwork. The commissioned artwork was also intended as respite, facilitating a quiet museum atmosphere within the large medical center.
Process
Jane Thompson as art consultant, suggested a budget, size of artwork and referenced a previous artwork from our portfolio that the client responded well to. The proposed faceted metal wall sculptures were chosen as the artwork's coloration and design are calming but create a sense of movement within the corridor.
