Overview
This 9 x 13′ mosaic dove flies through a portal of light in the side of St Austin’s Catholic Church. In its talons it holds an olive branch. From its heart fly a flock of smaller doves. Behind it, the words “Peace” and “Hope” are written in English, Latin, Hebrew, and Arabic.
Goals
St Austin's church wanted to share a message of "peace, hope, and all are welcome" to the community at large.
Process
I met with the church art committee for a period of 6 months and listened to their desires to convey an uplifting, inclusive message to the surrounding community. We talked a lot about spiritual imagery and how best to blend traditional and modern symbolism to convey that message to the largest group possible.
Additional Information
Each tile is hand made porcelain tile.
