Overview
Words of hope and strength in seven different languages appear and dissappear bathed in brilliant colors of the light spectrum in evolving forms activated by a computerized lighting system. Two installations in niches, each 24′ w x 12′ h x 10″ d grace the chapel. Bent glass with sandblasted words and dichroic glass mosaic are mounted on stainless steel elements. The computerized lighting effects add a meditative and mesmerizing quality which provides a calming atmosphere for viewers in stressful situations.
Goals
The goals for the project were to create light and color installations that included words of encouragement in seven languages that were calming and enlightening. When words are projected and appear and fade away, they have more of an impact on the viewer. When they are bathed in colored light the power is multiplied.
Process
I worked closely with the chaplain and other interested parties to choose both words and languages that were meaningful. Also worked closely with the architect and designer on the design and placement.
