Overview

e/motion is a revisited version of our childhood see-saw that invites users to dive into the joys and sensations of surging water. As they ride this infinite wave, the glowing liquid acts like a living entity that responds to their ups and downs.

From the integrated lit waves and water drops handlebars, to the soundscape redolent of the sea, users and bystanders are invited to explore e/motion’s magical ocean ambience from every angle. Is the base a whale’s tail or two water droplets? Let the imagination answer.

Sea-saw your way through this one-of-a-kind experience. Come for the laughter, stay for the memories.

Goals

The e/motion project served several essential goals. Firstly, it aimed to amalgamate chemistry and digital technology to create a unique, awe-inspiring universe with a marine theme, reigniting the inner child's sense of wonder in each user. By evoking childhood memories of seesaws and infusing them with a captivating oceanic ambiance, the project sought to transcend the individualistic nature of play, fostering community engagement and social interaction within public spaces. Secondly, it aimed to stimulate economic and social impacts throughout the project's lifecycle, from fabrication to public installation. Collaborating with diverse and specialized teams not only stimulated the local creative ecosystem but also had the potential to invigorate public spaces, bolster communities, increase foot traffic, and generate local economic benefits.

Additionally, the project sought to leverage its strong artistic signature and the exceptionally high quality of fabrication and production to enable touring. By combining artistic excellence with unparalleled craftsmanship, the project aimed to democratize art, ensuring its accessibility to diverse audiences worldwide while also ensuring its financial viability. This approach showcases commitment to artistic innovation and excellence.

Process

Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including Serge Maheu for integration, programming, sound, and lighting design, ensured a seamless fusion of technology and artistry. Maintenance Industries Meca-Fab inc. contributed expertise in structure and engineering, ensuring the project's durability and safety.

Extensive research and experimentation, facilitated by collaborative efforts, addressed technical challenges such as maintaining the simulated wave effect across diverse conditions. Rigorous testing, both in-house and in laboratory settings, identified materials meeting aesthetic, safety, and environmental criteria.

Under the stewardship of Creos as the tour producer, the project's main focus is to ensure its successful touring across various public spaces, amplifying its impact and accessibility. This meticulous approach, combined with the collective vision and dedication of all involved, resulted in a timeless and enchanting experience captivating audiences worldwide.
