Overview
Drop is a play structure sculpture commissioned by Eaton Elementary in Washington DC. The sculpture has a steel support frame contained within CNC milled foam, and is clad with a highly finished fiberglass coating.
Goals
Drop employs computational design tactics and engages with digital fabrication processes to inject imaginative shapes and form into the elementary school playground.
Process
Ignition Arts worked closely with the artist through concept and design development to structure the ideal fabrication strategy. Industry partners in CNC robotics were contracted with to accomplish the foam milling, and the pristine finish was achieved in partnership with auto body professionals.
