Overview
Three pieces for the data processing arm of Washington State government were all backlit and within proximity of one another.
Secret Garden, on the main level, is a bug’s-eye view of one’s lawn.
Stellar Wind, immediately above Secret Garden on the mezzanine level, relates to the interconnectedness of cyberspace and gives the impression of a Star Wars shoot-out.
For Laurel, down the hallway, recalls fresh cut flowers and the mood of Springtime.
Goals
The workers wanted something colourful and handmade to provide respite from the digital world they inhabited within the building.
Process
There were substantial issues relating to the seamless integration of the artwork into the walls without mullions and the back lighting.
Additional Information
This was most technically complex project to date. There are three layers of blown glass on one layer of safety glass, with six layers of treatment.
