Overview
84'x32' wheatpaste mural. Digitally comes alive in augmented reality (via the re public mobile application) and users can interact w/ the mural as the digital assets maintain correct perspectival relationship to the viewer.
Goals
Primary goal was to get citizens to interact (digitally) with public spaces through large works of street art. Through this interaction, users would hopefully think more critically about messaging in public space and the roles of production, advertising, and consumption.
Process
We design (A) the physical 2D mural, (B) the 3D digital artistic assets, and (C) the mobile software used to interact with the piece. We do an approval process with our clients on the mural designs, then iterate to bring those designs to life in digital space. In other words, we collaborate on all aspects of the process from concept design, mural design, digital design, and the physical mural installation.
Additional Information
At the time, this was the largest augmented reality mural in the world, until we recently eclipsed it with a mural in San Diego this year.
