Overview
Chris Silva with Brian Steckel. Mural installation using acrylic, reclaimed wood and light projection. 14’ x 26’, 2014. Design Firm: Gensler.
Goals
Chris Silva & Brian Steckel created this unique, abstract mural for the new Chicago headquarters of real estate company CBRE. The installation is a collage of reclaimed wood in varying depths and shapes, and employs symbols resonant with the office's Chicago identity. The “Y” shape refers to the point at which the branches of the Chicago river meet and the hive element is included as a reference to collaboration. Brian Steckel added a light feature to the piece using digital projection mapping technology, and infusing the piece with dynamic color and subtle movement.
Process
Patti Gilford Fine Arts placed Chris Silva on the project and the mural was a result of Chris's translation of CBRE's corporate identity into abstract form as well as coordination with the Gensler design firm in order to make sure the color palette was in line with their vision.
