Overview
Elliott Daingerfield (1859-1932) was a famous american impressionist who had his first studio in Blowing Rock,NC. The studio is restored and then life-size bronze sculpture depicts the artist as a young man “teaching” on the lawn of his studio. Dr. Lawrence Wheeler, CEO of the NC Museum of Art dedicated the sculpture.
Goals
" I chose a pose that indicates a confidant and inspired young Elliott in the process of instructing and demonstrating his skillful and acclaimed style early in his career. His Edwardian attire reveals a ruffled collar, unbuttoned jacket, relaxed and tousled hair all indicating the nature of painting outdoors."
Process
The maquette of the famous figure was accepted immediately with no changes. Rare in the art world where committee may require numerous sketches and models. The town overwhelmingly voted yes to the Public Art installation and all money was raised privately.
