Overview

The BioTube Bench is an ephemeral’ or seasonal bench – that will biodegrade when in contact with the elements. The individual (1/4″ thick walled) recycled tubes (manufactured for rolling carpets) are perfect containers to grow seedlings. The seating concept is really secondary, however in it’s non degraded state it is very durable and comfortable. Each individual seed saturated tube can be positioned in an outdoor urban or domestic environment (the cardboard tubes can be filled with newspaper/soil/sawdust etc to assist with the mulching) add water and sunlight – a garden is formed. The photo shows the indoor bench version with seedlings prior to biodegrading in to an organic mulch bed.

Goals

The Bio Tube Bench is an exploration of the disposable nature of our built environment.
