Overview
Great American Restaurants have twice commissioned artist Laura Fisher to build 3D colorful fish to feature in the entrance of their Coastal Flats restaurants. The first project, in collaboration with Chatelain Architects, is installed in Tysons Corner, VA. The second, in collaboration with Street Sense, is in Gaithersburg, MD. They are made from hand painted aluminum and range from 3 to 8 ft in length.
Goals
It was essential that the sculptures, murals, lighting...everything!...work together within the entryway space of the restaurant.
Process
Everybody was on the same page: color, exuberance, fun, and easy installation.
Additional Information
I pay homage to fish with every sculpture I make. They are incredible animals. Hopefully we humans will apply sufficient conscientious conservation so they will continue to flourish. Some of the sculptures are based on real fish and some are just an exuberant expression of admiration for a fellow species.
