Overview

“Act of Holding Dance” is a mesmerizing projection art installation that serves as a celebration and uplifting platform for local hip-hop, street dancers, and break dancers in Cincinnati. The installation not only showcases the talents of these artists but also emphasizes their unique styles of movement through abstract designs.

What makes this project even more remarkable is the collaboration aspect involved. Despite being physically located in Australia, the Artist, Wendy Yu remotely directed the installation while Cincinnati’s Elementz hip-hop dancers filmed and collaborated with local collaborators at Lightborne Communications. This collaborative effort brings together artists from different locations, bridging distances and uniting them in a shared artistic vision.

The strategic positioning of the installation on the prominent wall of The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland in Downtown ensures that it gains maximum exposure. The high foot traffic in this bustling area allows the vibrant energy and captivating performances of the dancers to reach a diverse audience, creating an immersive experience for all who pass by.

Goals

"Act of Holding Dance" aimed to celebrate and uplift local hip-hop, street dancers, and break dancers in Cincinnati, recognizing their talent and contribution to the vibrant dance culture of the city. It sought to provide a platform for these artists to showcase their unique skills and individual styles of movement, allowing their creativity to shine. A second goal was to create a visually captivating experience for viewers. The carefully crafted projection art installation combines the dynamic performances of the dancers with abstract designs that accentuate their movements, creating a visually stunning narrative. The goal is to captivate and engage the audience, drawing them into the world of dance and leaving a lasting impression.
