Overview
This Memorial is designed as a series of discrete, changing places within a larger integration of sculpture and landscape on a third of an acre of the city hall. Five dedicatory sculptures, one for each branch of the armed services, create spaces for public gathering and private contemplation, suggesting the relationship of the individual and their service to the American democratic community.
Goals
A reflecting pool forms the central axis of the memorial, bisected by granite paths that appear to float on the water. These paths begin at the public sidewalk and end in intimate seating areas on either side of the reflecting pool. The composition of sculpture and landscape elements honors the veterans and opens new urban space for the city.
